  • 3-RING BINDER: 1 OR 1.5 INCH

  • Plastic Page Protectors for the binder (about 30)

  • Supplies Pouch to fit in 3-ring binder

  • Pencils (Have four to five specifically for band that they keep in the supplies pouch)

RECOMMENDED SUPPLIES

These are the supplies recommended for every band student to aid in home practice and individual success.

Below, you will find individual instrument supplies. You can also purchase most of these things through a local music store like Marshall Music Co. or you can use the links provided for your convenience.

FLUTE

Vaseline for occasionally greasing the flute joints

Silk Swab for Cleaning out your instrument. Your flute must be swabbed out daily otherwise leftover moisture will damage the instrument over time. (one of these should come with a flute rented from a music shop)

CLARINET

Vandoren Reeds - are the best mass produced brand of clarinet reed. You can find cheaper reeds out there, but they are often poor quality. Your child will regularly need new reeds throughout each school year. Ensure that you are selecting reeds for "Clarinet". Beginners should use a strength "2.5". It is best for students to have 4 to 5 working reeds at a time. Rotating reeds helps each of them to last significantly longer. Plus, if a reed breaks (which will happen, students are always prepared with a back-up)

I will also have a band director store where students can buy clarinet reeds for $3. That money goes into the band's general supply fund.

Cork Grease or Vaseline for regularly greasing the corks of the clarinet. A small tube of this likely came with your clarinet, but when it runs out, these are both good options for keeping corks moisturized.

Mouthpiece Brush - Your child using the same mouthpiece every single day, which means that they need to clean that mouthpiece to get rid of accumulating germs.

Cleaning Swab - Your student's clarinet should have already come with one of these, but if not or if you need a new one, this one is great. Pick whatever color you like.

Ligature - Your student's clarinet should have already come with a ligature, but sometimes ligatures wear out or break. Here is the ligature I recommend!

Mouthpiece - your clarinet comes with one, but occasionally, kids break their mouthpiece. If that ever happens, this one works great.

Reed Guard (not required) - These keep your reeds in better condition for longer by preventing warping. It's not required, but in the long run, it does pay off.

Mouthpiece patches (not required) - these make the instrument a little bit more comfortable for students to play their instrument

ALTO SAXOPHONE

Vandoren Reeds - are the best mass produced brand of clarinet reed. You can find cheaper reeds out there, but they are often poor quality. Plus, if a reed breaks (which will happen, students are always prepared with a back-up)

I will also have a band director store where students can buy alto saxophone reeds for $4. That money goes into the band's general supply fund.

Neck Strap - This should have already come with your instrument, but if not, or if you need a new one, there are lots of options out there. This is a high quality neck strap that comes in three different sizes.20 inch "junior"22 inch, and 24 inch

Reed Guard (not required) - These keep your reeds in better condition for longer by preventing warping. It's not required, but in the long run, it does pay off.

Mouthpiece patches (not required) - these make the instrument a little bit more comfortable for students to play their instrument

TRUMPET

Valve Oil - There are a ton of brands out there. Some are good. Some are not. Your instrument should come with oil at first, but when it runs out, I recommend Blue Juice. Having this is essential!

Tuning Slide Grease or Vaseline - You will need one of these to make sure that the instruments tuning slides stay in working order. Specialty tuning slide grease works, but vaseline works just as well and tends to be cheaper.

Trumpet Cleaning Kit - Your child's instrument will stay in peak condition with the items in this kit.

TROMBONE

Trombone Slide Lubricant or Lemon Pledge - This is not the same thing as tuning slide grease. Mixing them up can damage the instrument. Either of these options work great.

Tuning Slide Grease or Vaseline - This is not the same thing as the trombone slide grease above. You will need one of these to make sure that the instruments tuning slides stay in working order. Specialty tuning slide grease works, but vaseline works just as well and tends to be cheaper.

Pocket Sized Spray Bottle - Trombone players will need to use water to "cut" the slide lubricant

Trombone Cleaning Kit - Your child's instrument will stay in peak condition with the items in this kit.

EUPHONIUM/BARITONE

Valve Oil - There are a ton of brands out there. Some are good. Some are not. Your instrument should come with oil at first, but when it runs out, I recommend Blue Juice. Having this is essential!

Tuning Slide Grease or Vaseline - You will need one of these to make sure that the instruments tuning slides stay in working order. Specialty tuning slide grease works, but vaseline works just as well and tends to be cheaper.

Cleaning kit - I know this says trumpet. The cleaning materials for both instruments are the same.
